Founded in 2016 by the award-winning pianist and composer Jakub Rojek, Gumption Music Academy is the premier piano school in Arizona. Our mission is to provide unparalleled music education and production services for events, concerts, recording sessions, and more. Join us and unlock your full musical potential today! Unlike many other schools (including universities and conservatories) we don't focus on teaching any specific genre of music, but instead teach transparent piano skills that can be applied to anything you do on the instrument. We focus on technique, touch, articulation, voicings, and training your ears so that you can transcribe and harmonize quickly anything ad hoc.

About the founder:

For more than two decades, Jakub Rojek has been a professional session, touring, and recording musician. He has also been involved in cross-over performance, composition, and improvisation. His expertise and research span non-idiomatic and trans-idiomatic improvisation, its development, application, and pedagogical aspect. He has appeared alongside jazz greats Dave Holland, Roscoe Mitchell, Dave Douglas, Cecil McBee, and has been awarded prizes and scholarships from International Composition Competition in Darmstadt, Germany, Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart, New England Conservatory, and performed in venues such as Jordan Hall in Boston, Steinway Hall and Spectrum in NYC, Crowder Hall in Tucson, Chopin Theatre in Chicago. His works have been featured at Oh My Ears New Music Festival in Phoenix, Tocalo Tucson and documented on five album releases. Rojek has received commissions and worked with film maker Micheal Dohrmann, visual artist Karine Laval, Grammy-nominated multi-reedman Aaron Kruziki, Polish soprano Milena Lange, Self-Imposed Exile, Javelinas, Sentient Lacuna, Leah Netsky, film maker Özlem Ayse Özgür, and percussionist Michael Pratt.
